With a scattering of wood-engraved text figures. Bound in red polished calf, spines with raised bands and panelled in gilt with 3 sporting devices [stag, fox and hound], marbled end-papers and edges, one volume with the external joints beginning to split at the ends, one volume with the top corners slightly damaged, one volume with a slight dent at the top of the spine, some scuffing at the edges and occasional unsporting though slight insect damage to a few corners, otherwise an attractive 8-volume run.

*A rather scarce periodical, running from 1839 to 1870, 2 volumes per year. The content is more extensive than appears from the title, including yachting, sailing, and Spanish bull-fighting, for example. Plus accounts from across the world - rural pursuits in the New World [there aren't any] and the Himalayas [some]. Not least of interest is the prefatory 'TO READERS AND CORRESPONDENTS', a sharply worded script of advice in each monthly issue - 'The work on fly-fishing, in seven hundred folios, is declined with thanks. Should it ever see the light, and produce effects at all commensurate with its pretension, woe! woe! to the 'painted populace' of the waters.' OR - 'We have received a note signed 'Amicus', not the first we have seen similarly subscribed, and in the same characters. The writer need not have taken such trouble to assist our contempt of him.'
