BAILLIE, Matthew.
The Morbid Anatomy of Some of the Most Important Parts of the Human Body.

pp. (iv), xliii, (i), 482. Contemporary half calf and marbled boards, newly rebacked retaining the old label, the first gathering of text misbound within the Preface, four leaves with very slight loss from the lower fore-edge margins without loss of text, text unusually clean, a very good copy.

*GARRISON-MORTON #2281-2282 and other citations - This is the text volume to accompany Baillie's fine atlas with William Clift's copper-plate engravings. It was first issued in 1793 [the atlas later, 1799-1803]. and was the 'first systematic text-book of morbid anatomy, treating the subject for the first time as an independent science.' The last edition to have been published was the eighth in 1833 and was the first with Wardrop's Observations. Wardrop also wrote a biography of Baillie for the Edinburgh Medical and Surgical Journal, in 1824, one year after Baillie's death.
