*This edition has the addition of chapters on automatic and duelling pistols. Winans covers every possible aspect and use of the revolver - '..... revolver shooting ... is not only morally and physically a healthy sport, but it teaches self-reliance, coolness, and the control of one's temper, which last such amusements as croquet and golf, for instance, certainly do not.' Winans has included chapters on stage and trick shooting, blank ammunition for the stage, target shooting off horseback, clay-pigeon shooting, shooting from a bicycle and for ladies ['Every lady should, to my mind, know how to use a pistol. She may at any time be in China............... when a lady sits on the ground to shoot...... it is most important that she should be protected against dampness and chills, consequently she will do well to stand on a thick mat, and avoid linen underwear. The safest sort of garments are thick flannel knickerbockers.'] Also, shooting in self-defence, with an appendix on the law relating to revolvers in Great Britain and Ireland, and to the carrying of weapons in the United States.
