ELLIOTSON, John.
Numerous Cases of Surgical Operations Without Pain in the Mesmeric State;

With Remarks Upon the Opposition of Many Members of the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society and Others to the Reception of the Inestimable Blessings of Mesmerism.

Description:
pp. 93, (i) Errata. BOUND WITH : The Mesmerist: A Journal of Vital Magnetism. Published by W. Strange. London. May 13th. 1843 [no.1] to September 23rd. 1843 [no.20]. pp. iv, 156. [Nos. 1 to 20 [ALL PUBLISHED] - no.8 is missing from the bound volume but I have been able to obtain a copy and this is now loosely added]. Early binder's cloth, a few top corners with old creases, clipped signature of DR. ELLIOTSON on the front paste-down, book-label of SIR THOMAS WILLSHIRE BART. [1789-1862], general (see DNB), also clipping from an old bookseller's catalogue describing this copy, a very good copy.

*COPAC lists 21 copies of the Elliotson title in British libraries though it is very scarce in commerce - see GARRISON-MORTON #4994. COPAC records only the BL set of The Mesmerist [but lacking no.20, a valedictory issue of considerable scarcity - the copy offered here also includes the general title-page and the Contents leaf from which it is clear that a final, no.20, issue should be included in the run] plus a short run, nos.1-9, in Cambridge. WORLDCAT lists two microfilm copies in the USA but no other letter-press copy in the USA nor in any major European library. Four numbers include a report of Elliotson's treatment of a case of St. Vitus' Dance.
