Description:
Bronze medallion, DIAMETER c.5.9 cms., within card case, the lower section splitting away from the rim but in overall lovely condition, both medallion and case.

*LEOPOLD RITTER VON DITTEL [1815-1898], an Austrian urologist, born in Fulnek, now in the Czech Republic. He graduated from the University of Vienna in 1840 and worked as a physician in Trentschin-Teplitz, and from 1853 until 1857, was assistant to Johann von Dumreicher. He subsequently became chief surgeon at the Allgemeines Krankenhaus, and in 1865, was appointed associate professor. He developed a number of innovatory techniques and surgical practices in genito-urinary medicine, especially with the use of the newly invented cyctoscope. In addition, he published a treatise on club-foot, in 1851, and scoliosis in 1853. His last works were monographs on Operations for Bladder Stones [1880] and Kidney Calculus [1881].
