Description:
pp. (ii), 385, (i). Bound without the half-title. Contemporary speckled calf, an early reback with the original spine relaid, twin labels, one of which states '1', implying that this is the first of a collected works. This title is complete in itself and was published separately, and clearly the 'collected works' was a private assemblage, possibly by the THOMAS HARDWICK, 1855, who has signed the front blank. A touch of wear but overall a very nice copy.
* T75726 this edition. LETTER 1 : 'I begin with your preface. You therein state - that you had long had an intention of publishing your thoughts upon religion, but that you had originally preserved it until a later period of life. - I hope there is no want of charity in saying, that it would have been fortunate for the christian world, had your life been terminated before you had fulfilled your intention.'
