*STOCK's premature death at the age of 23 prompted the employment of an editor for this edition, eleven years after the first. See : Directory of British Architects, 1834-1914: Vol. 2 (L-Z) edited by ANTONIA BRODIE, British Architectural Library, Royal Institute of British Architects. CECIL HADEN STOCK, born 1859, died in New Zealand, from tuberculosis. In independent practice by 1882 and elected to the RIBA in January, 1883 - one of his proposers was R. P. SPIERS.
