COUSINS, B[enjamin]. D[avy].
BROADSHEET - England at One View.

A single sheet, c.73 x 49 cms., printed in two wide columns, headed by a woodcut of the New Houses of Parliament [finished in 1860]. Backed with contemporary sheets of The Times, rolled, a large piece torn with loss, c. 13 x 9 cms. and visible in the attached image, otherwise in very good condition.

*BENJAMIN DAVY COUSINS (1795-1884), radical, publisher of cheap literature, agent for James Greaves the millenarial socialist, publisher of Robert Dale Owen and Tom Paine, and satirical periodicals such as The London Pioneer, The London Entertaining Magazine and The Penny Satirist. In the struggle to counter the stamped press, he had had his goods and presses confiscated. Many of his publications are surprisingly scarce, including these instructive broadsides, no copies of which are recorded on COPAC - 'More information will be found in these Sheets than would be purchased for a Guinea if sought for in Books.' See imprint at the foot of the sheet.
