Sunny Hours Nursery Rhymes Book.

ff.14. Chromolithographed plates with text. In brown boards modelled as five bars of chocolate, each with J. S. FRY & SONS incised, the rear paste-down with an advertisement for FRY'S PURE CONCENTRATED COCOA, lacking the rear free end-paper, the front end-papers are plain, the front free end-paper once loose and now tipped back in and frayed at the edges with slight loss, the boards rubbed at the edges and corners, occasional little edge tear in the text leaves without loss, ownership inscription on the front free end-paper with the date 'Christmas 1890', showing use but a rare survival of an interesting piece of advertising ephemera.

*COPAC gives three locations, the copyright libraries of Oxford - Cambridge and the British Library. These all ascribe the date to 1891; none mentions the type of binding. One might assume that the Fry's factory chose a children's book to have their special binding at Christmas time as an astute piece of advertising. The fourteen chromolithographed leaves carry a picture and a verse, many of which relate to tea-time [and chocolate !]. The Cambridge copy states that it has 13 leaves, and is therefore defective.
