*First American edition of GARRISON-MORTON #4818 - MCHENRY pp.312-315 et seq. 'Like Jackson, Gowers was a clinician, and like Charcot, an artist...... Gowers was concerned with all aspects of neurology, but he had a particular interest in epilepsy, which he vividly described in his 'Epilepsy and Other Chronic Convulsive Disorders.....'. COURVILLE #863 for the 1885 American edition only. CRITCHLEY, p.38 et seq. - 'The next great milestone in the Gowers bibliography was the appearance in print in 1881 of his Goulstonian Lectures on 'Epilepsy...'. Based upon 1450 personally observed cases, the lectures were augmented in order to constitute this monograph. It forms a considerable landmark in the literature of epilepsy, and stands out prominently among a number of other works which happened to appear about the same time.... [It] has remained a classic right up to the present time.'
