A very good copy in the original cloth, a long note in pencil at the front initialled G.S. records the following : 'This book is a curio. This book claims to be No.237 University of Manchester Press but it was not in fact published by them but by Brockbank himself. The Mss was submitted to the Press Committee but was rejected by it. However, ***** [illegible] deterred, Brockbank went ahead and had it set up to look like a Univ. Press book ! The Vice-Chancellor and others were naturally very incensed by this (the v.c. told me so himself) and would have exposed the whole affair publicly had it not been for the advanced years of the author.'
