*GEORGE WILLIAM CLARKSON KAYE (1880-1941), educated at the Royal College of Science and the Cavendish Laboratory, and personal assistant to Sir J. J. Thomson. He was awarded an OBE for services during WWI, subsequently took a position in the War Office and in 1922 was appointed Superintendent of the Physics Dept. at the National Physical Laboratory. He was one of the foremost members of the Protection Committee, setting standards for rooms and equipment and devising methods of protection for X-ray workers.
