Kosaka Mining, Smelting and Refining Works.

Title page and 69 photographic plates [5 folding], legends in English and Japanese. Original citron cloth, title in kanji characters on the front cover, in English on the spine, all edges gilt, many of the plates had been interleaved with brochure cuttings, mostly mounted on the reverse but occasionally on the image side. All have been professionally removed - eight plates show some residue on the image and many reveal adhesion lines on the reverse where the cuttings were attached. In the former instance, traces of the cuttings remain on the plates, in the latter, the images are unaffected, though some margins show light offset browning. The end-papers have been renewed, as have the cloth joints, both paper and cloth identical to the originals, using old stock. The free end-papers have been laminated to the originals, thus the versos are original. Despite the necessary refurbishment, a good copy.

*A rare record of the Kosaka copper mine, revealed in exceptional detail, the plates figuring all aspects of the Fujita Company works, many showing people in their tasks. No copy of this or any related material on COPAC - the on-line Library of Congress catalogue records a 6pp. brochure 12 x 19 cms., of the Kosaka mine by Fujita and Co., dated [?1904].
