[WHETSTONE, George].
The Cures of the Diseased in Forraine Attempts of the English Nation.

London. 1598. Reproduced in facsimile. With Introduction and Notes by CHARLES SINGER.

Description:
pp. (xiv), 28, (vi). Original mock vellum covers, slightly worn dust wrapper, a very good copy.

*GARRISON-MORTON #2262 for the original edition of 1598, there given the authorship of GEORGE WATESON. Written under the anonymity of initials, Singer proves this work to have been the production of Whetstone and shows that it was seen in manuscript by Hackluyt and William Gilbert. It is the first work in the English language on tropical diseases and considers sunstroke, tabordilla (possibly typhus or yellow fever), prickly heat, dysentery, erysipelas and scurvy. At the time of printing of this facsimile, only a single copy of the original was known, held in the British Library. This edition is NOT IN the BL.
