GROTE, John.
Exploratio Philosophica: Rough Notes on Modern Intellectual Science. Part I (ALL PUBLISHED in his life-time).

pp. xlvii, (i), 258. Original cloth recased, ex-libris with book-plate, ticket and occasional stamp, inscribed 'From the Author' at the head of the title, a good copy.

*GROTE was Professor of Moral Philosophy at Cambridge; he put together these 'Rough Notes' after reading Mill's Utilitarianism and presumably would have enlarged upon them had he not died in the summer following publication. He discusses, among other topics, the Metaphysics of Ferrier and Sir William Hamilton, the Logic of John Stuart Mill and the Philosophy of Science of Whewell. A second volume under the same title was issued in 1900, edited by J. B. MAYOR.
