[MEYNELL, Wilfred].
John Oldcastle's Guide for Literary Beginners.

Description:
pp. 122, (ii) How to Correct, (iv) Advertisements. Woodcut initials and tail-pieces, facsimile signatures in text. Original publisher's printed paper boards, spine faded and ends a bit bruised, name and date (1896) at the top of the front cover, thirteen lines with early blue pencil underline, in other ways a good copy.

*COPAC records five locations but it is surprisingly scarce in the market. It is effectively an abridgement of 'Journals and Journalism: With a Guide for Literary Beginners', first issued in 1880 in an edition of 1000 copies. This sold out within a few days and a second edition was published in 1881. This also proved to be very popular and the above title was printed '.... in cheap and handy fashion.......', to fill the need. It omits the 'Dictionary of the Periodical Press' to be found in the first edition.
