[GIBSON, Charles Dana ?]
CALENDAR of 8 original pen-and-ink drawings, unsigned but with a speculative attribution to GIBSON, all laid to card with blank guard leaves, lacking a card for JUNE but with a duplicate card for FEBRUARY [Leap Year], four of the cards have the calendars for two months each, the remainder have one month only, each with a legend below, the year is not stated.

Description:
The cards have been variously attacked by insects, mostly at the edges and corners and thus not affecting the images, but on a couple of the cards, there are small patches of insect damage elsewhere, though not on the drawings. Each card has two perforations at the top edge for a cord, there is some foxing and the occasional mark, but despite this, the cards are most attractive, and drawn with Gibson's characteristic elan.

*Subject matter shows the typical 'Gibson Girl' in a romantic situation - e.g GG with suitor on the links - 'The Ancient and Honourable Game'; GG and Cupid - 'The Conspirators'; GG and suitor on the beach - 'The Turning of the Tide'. The original 'Gibson Girl' was Lady Nancy Astor's elder sister, Irene Langhorne. Nancy Astor was Member of Parliament for Plymouth (Sutton), some fifteen miles from this address, in Devon.
