Title, Contents and 39 plates [plate1 is a coloured folding map of the Railways of North America; the remainder are engraved line drawings of bridges, tunnels, turntables, rail-track, stations, sidings etc.]. Quarter calf and marbled boards, spine rubbed at ends and edges, the map loose and with a tear in one fold, otherwise a very good copy.

*This work was issued in 4 volumes - 2 volumes text, each with an Atlas. The above is the Atlas volume only to Vol. I, on Construction. Each plate has many figures showing the fine detail of many actual structures, e.g. the Monongahela Bridge, Pittsburg; the bridge over the Ohio River on the Ohio-Cincinnati Railroad; the viaduct at Louisville; underground construction; the Kentucky River viaduct; the Atchison Bridge on the Missouri; Pennsylvania Railroad rolling stock; Pittsburg and West Philadelphia Railway Stations, etc. etc.
