*GARRISON-MORTON 2074 for the first edition of 1825 - 'Includes a detailed description of the paralysing effects of curare.' 'In the month of April, 1812, I left the town of Stabroek, to travel through the wilds of Demarara and Essequibo, a part of ci-devant Dutch Guiana, in South America. The chief objects in view, were to collect a quantity of the strongest Wourali poison.... the Indians... seemed to depend more on the wourali poison for killing their game, than upon anything else.....It was with difficulty these Indians could be persuaded to part with any of the wourali poison, though a good price was offered for it; they gave to understand that it was powder and shot to them, and very difficult to be procured.'
