Engraved portrait frontispiece of Demours's father,1791, by MASQUELIER after LATOUR, and 80 finely engraved plates, mostly coloured, as follows : Plates 1-8 in both full and outline, plates 9 and 10 in full, outline and coloured states, plates 11 and 12 in full and outline states, plate 13 in two states, with different images, one of them comprising two figures, each with additional hand-colouring, thus TOTAL 28 plates forming SOEMMERRING'S Icones Oculi Humani; plates 14 and 15 illustrate instruments for operations, the remaining plates 16 to 65, have 3 figures to a plate, all finely colour-printed by LANGLOIS, engraved by SEBASTIEN LEFEVRE, SOPHIE SIXDENIERS, POMEL and others after paintings by LAGUICHE. Text volume in contemporary quarter calf and marbled boards, rebacked, atlas in original cloth recased with new end-papers, spine relaid, scattered foxing, else both very good copies.

*Soemmerring's work is found here in its first French edition. See HAGELIN Rare and Important Books in the Library of the Swedish Society of Medicine, 1989, pp.140-141, with coloured plate. The complete work comprises vols.1-3 text, in octavo, with the first volume describing clinical details and including the first description of glaucoma in which the importance of heightened intraocular pressure is recognized. Vols. 2 and 3 give hundreds of case histories culled from both Demours the Elder and his son's practices.
