pp. xxiii, (i), 567, (i), 32 Catalogue. 185 figures [of which 13 are large folding heart traces]. Original cloth, recased, a little faded and the lower corners affected by damp, a bifolium has never been bound in and thus the edges are a bit dusty, this has been rectified, overall a good copy.

*ARTHUR ERNEST SANSOM (1838-1907) was consulting physician to the London Hospital and an authority on diseases of the heart and lungs. He had delivered the Lettsomian Lectures on valvular diseases of the heart in 1883. The above text became 'The standard work on diagnosis and physical signs in heart disease, which includes a long section on the sphymograph, apex cardiogram, and venous pulse. Sansom...... introduced a new pleximeter and was the first to describe the mitral origin of the split second sound in mitral stenosis (opening snap).' EVAN BEDFORD Library of Cardiology, #309.
