pp. (xii), 440, 451-598, (xxvi) Index, (i) Errata, (i) blank. 8 engraved plates, a number of text woodcuts. Contemporary half calf now worn, joints very weak but holding, light offsetting from the plates, occasional marginal foxing, considerable marginal and interlineal annotation in a minuscule hand in ink, most of the entries c. 1850-1870.

*The annotations mostly record booksellers' and auctioned copies of titles Ames listed, the odd leaf of notes is tipped in, the rear paste-down has been used to list Caxton's titles.
