Hastings and Aviation.

Description:
- PNEUMATIC TYRES - DUNLOP RUBBER COMPANY -

*An original coloured lithograph from 'Vanity Fair' by HCO [name unknown]. Born in Dublin, his father became chair of the Pneumatic Tyre Co. and he joined the board in 1892. The company was purchased by Dunlop on 1901, and Du Cros expanded the new firm, buying much rubber-producing land in Malaya and Ceylon. He entered politics, founded the Parliamentary Aerial Defence Committee in 1909 and promoted the funding of military aeronautical development. He was opposed to female suffrage and as a result of this stance, suffered the arson of his house in 1913. His later life was blighted by financial impropriety.
